Camm Residence
Amos and Daisy Lockhart, the parents of nine children, including Susie Camm, Dave's mother, purchased the 40 acres of land in rural Floyd County in the 1960's and built a modest house which later became their retirement home. One son, Leland, also built on the property and as the years went by several other people purchased lots which were each over an acre in size.
Kim and Dave purchased a lot immediately across the gravel road from Amos and Daisy in the mid-1990's. They used Mark Werncke to build their house in 1995. Mark has been an established builder with a very good reputation for years in the area and since building the Camm house he has moved on to houses costing upwards of $1 million. Mark, all six foot seven inches of him, also loved to play basketball and he was one of the players on the night of September 28th.
The house on Lockhart Road contains three-bedrooms, two baths, a full unfinished basement and sits on a half acre of land on Lockhart Road. Houses are several hundred feet apart and a large hayfield and pasture, part of a farm containing over 100 acres, is on the southern edge of the overall property. The area around the Camm residence is surrounded in the rear by several acres of trees and their driveway also served as the driveway access to the Ter Vree residence, Dave's aunt and her husband, a former police officer.
The house was in a wonderful location but due to the increasing activities of the kids, their enrollment in Graceland Christian School in New Albany and other factors such as the location of the grandparents, Kim and Dave had been discussing the possibility of moving closer to Graceland and securing a larger house that perhaps even had a swimming pool.
