Initial Timeline
Working alone, Detective Makowsky also began to assimilate a timeline for Dave. He used the information contained in other reports and from information obtained by others, as well as from Dave's day planner and estimate sheets to build the timeline. Makowsky was performing as an investigator should perform. He was hitting the streets, interviewing people, getting the information, organizing the results, and then letting the investigation speak for itself.
Makowsky, however, didn't have the results of the dozens of telephone calls from Dave's cellular work phone, the Camm residence, Amos Lockhart's residence, or any other phone calls which corroborated Dave's recollection of the day, that of Sam Lockhart, Nelson Lockhart or others. He also didn't have the results of the interviews of the 10 basketball players or of Tom Jolly. They weren't important at the time and were therefore essentially ignored except to mischaracterize the results of their interviews. Makowsky's attempts to put together a timeline weren't continued by any of the other investigators because a timeline wasn't important to their case. They were convinced that Dave committed the murders between 9:15-9:30PM and the timing of any contacts, the demeanor of Kim, Brad, Jill and Dave, and the analysis of other records which would help them understand what he and the family did that day played no role in helping shape the investigation and to reach any conclusions.
