Kim's Employer Interviews

Aegon, Louisville; Kim's Employer

One of the individuals that Detective Makowsky also interviewed was Rudy Gernert, the Aegon official whom Dave spoke to on the morning of September 29th. The police later made a big deal out of the fact that Dave called Aegon and inquired about Kim's insurance policies. That could be significant if Dave's call was for purely financial reasons and/or to get his hands on the insurance proceeds as quickly as possible. That wasn't the case, however.

Julie, Dave's sister, early in the morning of September 29th, told Dave she was going to call Aegon and alert them to Kim's death. Dave told her that he should be the one to call. He subsequently spoke with Gernert and Gernert, who has testified on two occasions and under oath on at least two other occasions, stated that Dave told him to make sure that he saved Kim's e-mails and voice mails. Dave was trying to think like a police officer. He was also a husband and father who couldn't fathom why someone had murdered his wife and children.

Gernert stated that he was sure that he brought up the fact that a person from Human Resources (HR) would contact Dave. Gernert then contacted an individual in HR and told them to save Kim's e-mails and voice mails. That person later did call Dave and told him that she knew that three funerals would be expensive and that he would need help financially. She told him that she would continue to be in touch with him.

No one at Aegon ever claimed that Dave ever pressed anyone for any payment of any insurance policy or even inquired as to the amounts of Kim's policies. The people at Aegon were simply saddened, sympathetic, and trying to help. Indeed, the person who handled all of the Camm insurance needs was Kim. Kim, the financial analyst, who worked for a company which specialized in pensions and secure financial futures for individuals, was the one who handled the insurance for the Camm family. Dave didn't know what insurance they had and didn't ask. The people at Aegon were just trying to help.
